Many books and post on survival explain items that are a priority to staying alive such as fire water food and shelter but what about situational awareness (SA) ? I think situational awareness should be on the top of your survival list. So, what is situational awareness?

By definition, situational awareness is the perception of environmental elements within a volume of time and space, the comprehension of their meaning, and the projection of their status in the near future.

Steps to improve your situational awareness.
1.Identify the elements and terrain around you. Are there any threats present? Watch for changes in your environment.
2.Listen to your gut feeling. Your body reacts to stimulus instinctively and most often is correct on how you should react.
3.Limit fixations. Fixating on something will cause you to lose awareness of your surroundings inviting hazards into your situation.
4.Keep track of time. assess what you need to get done and give yourself enough time to complete it.
5.Limit fatigue. fatigue can lead to clumsy errors that could lead to a life threading situation. Stop, revive, SURVIVE.

Keeping your situational awareness will prevent and mistakes or hazards resulting in you getting out safe and injury free. Pay attention to your surroundings and act accordingly!
