Three cloud formations to watch out for.

Being able to predict the weather is an important factor in survival. Are you prepared for a cold front or heavy rainfall? Knowing if a storm is approaching can give you the advantage of being able to make shelter and prepare for the worse. The following are three most common types of cloud formations to be conscious of when in a survival situation.

Cumulus, formed by water vapor, cold water droplets, or ice crystals. They are puffy with a flat base often described as looking like cotton balls. They are a precursor to other cloud formations when influenced by weather factors such as instability, moisture, and temperature changes. when you see these clouds forming be cautious, a storm may be approaching. Image Stratus, horizontal layering with a uniform base. Varying in color from dark grey to nearly white.  A cloudy day is often used to describe stratus clouds. they may produce a light drizzle or snowfall.

Nimbus, producing rain, hail, snow or sleet. they are dark grey and contain large amounts of water. Nimbus clouds form in low altitudes and are uniformly spread throughout the sky. If you see these clouds be prepared for a storm!

Being prepared for a storm will save your life. Get to high ground, make shelter and stay dry!
